What is Scandium?
When anyone in the bike world talks about Scandium tubing, they are really talking about Scandium-enhanced aluminum alloy tubing, not pure scandium.

Scandium (Sc) is one of the most potent alloying elements on the periodic table. In simple English, add a dash of this stuff to good old aluminum and you have a super-strong metal alloy.

Not only do you get better strength than current 6000 and 7000 series aluminum tubes, but a finer grain structure and longer fatigue life. That's why these tubes can be drawn thinner while remaining stronger than other top-quality aluminum tubing.
